We are incredibly proud of our Junior and Senior Elite Company dancers that attended StarLand Productions Competition in Morehead City!! 8 Overall Awards, 2 Diamond Awards, 10 Platinum Awards and 3 Gold Awards. Awesome job dancers!!! This was a really tough competition with all entries competing against each other (beginner, intermediate, and advanced)……StarLand doesn’t offer different levels for varying abilities or number of hours or years of training. We are super proud of our dancers, teachers and parents for winning the Studio of the Day Award for Sportsmanship, as well as, the Studio of the Day Spirit Award. A hug thank you to parents, grandparents, family and friends that made our dancers’ trip to the coast possible!!

We are very proud of our dancers that competed at Marvonna competition in Reidsville this
weekend!! Sarah was 1st Overall High Score for all level 1 solos, 3rd Overall High Score for all
level 1 entries and earned an Extreme award. Kristen earned an Elite award and
did a beautiful job! Tessa was 1st Overall High Score for all level 3 solos,
1st Overall for all level 3 senior entries and won the Scoring Sensation Award for the
highest score of the day for all entries. All three of our girls were selected for the MVP team to
perform at Marvonna Nationals this summer! I’m not only proud of their dancing
and accomplishments, but even more so of their support of one another, encouraging and
supporting dancers from other studios, their sportsmanship and their positive attitudes!
You represented us well and I am so very, very proud of you!

Sarah received a High Gold award for her solo and 6th Place Overall for Junior Excel Solos (out of 48 Jr. solos).
Kristen received a High Gold award in the Teen Extreme category for her jazz solo. So proud of you both!

Victoria and Claudia traveled to Weston, West Virginia to compete in D.M.A.’s Fall Classics baton competition. Victoria won the Fall Classics Princess Title in the 9-10 age division, as well as, won 1st Place in ALL of her competition events: Intermediate Solo twirling, Intermediate Fancy Strut, Queen of the Day, Beginner Solo twirling and Beginner Fancy Strut. Claudia won the Fall Classics Starlette Title for the 0-6 yr. old division, as well as, placed 1st in Special Beginner Solo twirling, 2nd in Special Beginner Fancy Strut, 2nd Place in Beginner Fancy Strut and 3rd Place in Beginner Solo twirling. We are so very proud of Victoria and Claudia!

They were privileged to take incredible classes taught by SYTYCD dancers: Alex Wong, Jamie Goodman, Sasha Mallory and Nick Gonzales. So very proud of our dancer, Sarah Allen, who won a Shield of Excellence scholarship!!

Bailey, Kaitlyn, Hannah, Tessa and Lindsey traveled to Charlotte to attend a master class with Abby Lee Miller. They took a class taught by Abby and Gianna, participated in a question and answer session with Abby, as well as; met, got autographs and took photos with Maddie, Mackenzie and Abby. Abby also conducted an impromptu audition and selected 8 (out of the 400 dancers attending) to receive full scholarships to the Abby Lee Boot camp this summer. Congratulations to Tessa on being selected for this honor!

Olivia, Tessa, Kenard and Ben traveled to Wilmington to participate in the Disney Channel’s open call audition. Over 4,500 talented young people were there to audition. It was a great experience and we are so proud of our multi-talented company members!
We are so proud of our company dancers that performed in the Norlina Centennial Celebration parade……dancing and tumbling down Main Street in Norlina to kick off the town’s celebration festival.

Tessa relinquished her title ‘North Carolina’s Outstanding Majestic Miss’ at the state pageant in September. She thoroughly enjoyed the opportunities to perform, make appearances, mentor under Miss North Carolina and raise money for CMN. At this year’s state pageant, Tessa was honored to receive the President’s Community Service Award (Gold, Silver and Bronze Levels) and was shocked and thrilled to win the Overall Community Service Award for all NCOLM participants and queens. To date, Tessa had logged over 700 community service hours.

Summer 2013
Victoria M and Claudia T traveled to Georgia to compete in the Drum Majorettes of America
National competition held at West Georgia University. Victoria captured the National title
“Summer Starlet” for the 9-10 age division, as well as, won 1st in the solo twirling and fancy strut
categories. Claudia competed in the 6 and under category and placed 11th overall
in the National Title category and won 1st Place in the Queen of the Day
category for her age division. Victoria is a member of our ‘All Stars’ company and is
coached in baton by Stacey Markham and Gail Bordner. Claudia is avid dancer at Ballet Arts
and is coached by Stacey Markham. So proud of our twirlers on a great job at DMA Nationals!
Tessa was one of only 100 dancers selected by audition to attend the NYCDA
summer dance intensive held at Pace University in NYC. She had the opportunity to
take classes from renown Broadway choreographers and professional dancers in contemporary,
jazz, ballet, tap, musical theater and voice. Classes and rehearsals were held daily from
9am to 9pm in the dance studios at Pace University and culminated with a performance in the
theater at the Michael Schimmel Performing Arts Center at Pace University.
NYCDA Intensive students also worked with the cast of the Broadway show “Motown”,
had a private Q & A session with the cast of “Pippin” and went to see “Ballet X” at the
Joyce Theater and “Pippin”on Broadway. What an amazing experience!

Alaina P traveled to Virginia Beach to perform at Marvonna Nationals with the
Marvonna Nationals dance team. She was one of three Ballet Arts dancers selected
to perform at Nationals from the Reidsville regional competition. Way to go Alaina!
Some of our Junior Company dancers traveled to Myrtle Beach to perform in the Star Performers
production number at Star Talent Nationals. The girls were selected for the special
Nationals Team when they competed at the Star Talent Greensboro regional competition.

Kenard W. traveled to Chicago again this summer to dance in the Human Rhythm Project,
which is an advanced tap intensive and invitational tap festival. Kenard is a member of the NC
Youth Tap Ensemble and the Ballet Arts ‘All Stars’ Sr. Elite Tap Company.
Congratulations to Ballet Arts alumni, BrieAnna Hester.
She was in the top five at The Miss North Carolina Pageant and won Preliminary Swimsuit.

Fall 2012
Victoria brought home top awards and won the title “Fall Classic Sweetheart” at D.M.A.’s Fall Classic competition held in Ellenborough, West Virginia. She also won 1st place in sp. beg. solo twirling, 1st place in sp. beg. fancy strut, 1st place in Queen of the Day modeling, 1st runner up in W.Va. Most Beatiful Majorette, 2nd place in beg. fancy strut and 3rd place in beg. solo twirling. Congratulations Victoria!!

The Wolff Fording costume catalog arrived and we got our first glimpse of the photos of Tessa and Riley that were taken this summer as they modeled for Wolff Fording Company . This was Riley’s first time modeling and Tessa’s second year as a Wolff Fording model.

Molly traveled to Disneyland in California over Thanksgiving to compete in the national finals of the National American Miss pageant. Molly was selected as a finalist for nationals when she competed in the National American Miss state pageant held this summer in Greensboro. At the state level, Molly also won 2nd runner up in the talent division. Her sister Sydney also competed in the state finals pageant and was selected from over 113 contestants for the Judges Choice Award for spirit, sportmanship and friendship. Congratulations to both Molly and Sydney!!
Some of our twirlers performed with the Webb High School band at their annual band night. Very special thanks to Miss Stacey Markham for choreographing and rehearsing our twirlers! Thank you also to Lara Wood and alumni Kristin Wood for making this performance possible!

We had an exciting 20th Annual Guest Artist Workshop!!! Ballet Arts was thrilled to have a Broadway performer as one of our special guest instructors! Ballet Arts students and ‘All Stars’ company member were treated to 4 days of inspiring classes in jazz, tap, contemporary, lyrical, acrobatics and musical theater. There were also question and answer sessions and autograph signings with Tommy Bracco, an original cast member of the Broadway show the Newsies. The workshop culminated with a fantastic student showcase. Thank you to our outstanding guest faculty (Kurtis Overby, Morgan Rudolph, Quisan Parker and Tommy Bracco) and all of our students and alumni that participated.

BrieAnna also won the overall talent and swimsuit awards at the preliminary,
which was held in Southern Pines, N.C.

Summer 2012
Tessa H. was crowned “North Carolina’s Outstanding Majestic Miss 2012” at North Carolina’s Outstanding Little Miss state pageant after receiving the highest score of all the contestants from across the state ages 7 to 13. She also won the Overall Talent Award (ages 7-13), the Overall Interview Award (ages 7-13) and the Fitness Award for the Young Miss age division.

The NCOLM pageant is the only sanctioned little sister program to the Miss North Carolina pageant. For the next year the winners of all divisions will make public appearances in order to raise money and bring attention to the Children’s Miracle Network. “All Stars” Junior Company members, Katelyn and Jocelyn, traveled to Atlanta to participate in the Jazz on Tap on Tour dance camp. This was Katelyn and Jocelyn’s second summer attending the workshop. They took classes from professional dancers that have appeared in “Footloose”, “Drop Dead Diva” and SYTYCD, as well as choreographers whose work has appeared in various movies and music videos.
Ballet Arts baton students (under the direction of Ballet Arts instructor Stacey Markham) competed at Drum Majorettes of America Nationals. Victoria M. and Claudia T. competed at the week-long national competition.

Victoria competed in the 7-8 yr old division and won: 1st place Queen of the Day, 1st place Best Appearing, 1st place Basic Strut, 2nd Place Summer Starlet–National Title, 2nd place Fancy Strutt, 2nd Place Solo twirling, 7th Place Debutant–National Title, 7th Place Beg. Solo twirling and 11th Place Beg. Fancy Strut.
Claudia competed in the 6 & under age division and won: 1st place Best Appearing, 3rd Place Queen of the Day, 4th place Basic Strut, 4th place Summer Starlet –National Title, 7th Place Fancy Strut, 3rd Place Beg. Fancy Strut, 3rd Place Beg. Solo twirling and 4th place Solo twirling.
Ballet Arts dancers participated in 3 intensives held at the studio this summer: a jazz/hip hop intensive with Miss Jodie, a ballet/contemporary (dancer’s bootcamp) with Mr. Brian and a tap/clogging intensive with Miss Jodie.
Ballet Arts twirlers participated in a baton clinic instructed by Stacey Markham and Kristin Wood. Twirlers ages 4 to 15 attended the clinic and worked with one baton, two baton, hoop, ribbon baton and fire baton.

Ballet Arts dancers: Sarah A., Holly C., Bailey H., Hannah H., Bess H., Lainey N. and Ben S. participated in the Broadway and Beyond Theater camp held at Ballet Arts and Oxford City Hall Auditorium. They performed in the play “Aladdin”. Tessa H. was a Jr. Counselor for the camp.

Bess, Kristen and Kenard attended the NC Rhythm Tap Festival.
They took classes under tap greats such as Arthur Duncan,
were treated to special performances, and took part in a tap jam.
